Using this website
What we have built in
- A skip link to the main content, reachable with the first press of the Tab key on every page.
- Full keyboard operation. Every menu, filter, accordion and the fullscreen image viewer can be used without a mouse. The image viewer is a native dialog, so focus stays inside it while it is open and Escape closes it.
- Visible focus outlines on every interactive element, never removed for looks.
- Respect for the reduced motion setting in your operating system. Turn it on and the parallax, reveals, magnetic buttons and moving image strips all stop, with nothing left hidden as a result.
- Descriptive alternative text on photographs, and labels on icon-only buttons.
- Text that scales. Sizes are set in relative units, so zooming to 200 percent does not break the layout.
- Real headings in order, so a screen reader can navigate the structure of a page.
- The page language is declared, and the site is translated into eight languages.
- A pause control on the home page background video, in the bar along the bottom of the opening screen. The video is silent and, if you have reduced motion switched on, it does not start playing at all.
Where we know it falls short
Being straight about this is more useful than claiming full conformance. We aim at WCAG 2.1 level AA and are not there on every point.
- Some decorative text sits over photographs, where contrast varies with the part of the image behind it.
- The destination row on the home page scrolls sideways. It can be moved with the keyboard, but it has no visible previous and next buttons yet.
- The site has been checked with keyboard navigation and automated tooling, but not yet audited by a screen reader user.

Travelling with us
The vehicle, described plainly
Our van is a Nissan Clipper high-roof mini van. It is compact, which is what lets it reach narrow village roads and hill routes that coaches cannot. Being compact also means:
- It has a standard step up at the door and no ramp or lift.
- A folded wheelchair or walker can be carried, but the van cannot be boarded in a wheelchair.
- Air conditioning throughout, which matters in the lowland heat if you are heat-sensitive.
- Comfortable for up to five on day trips, and three or four with luggage on longer tours.
What we can arrange with notice
- A slower pace, shorter driving days and more frequent stops.
- Front seating if you get motion sick, and planned rest stops on the hill roads.
- Routes chosen around what you can manage. Many major sites in Sri Lanka involve long stairs or uneven stone, and your guide knows which ones have step-free viewpoints and which genuinely do not.
- A child seat, if you tell us the age of your child when booking, and seating arranged around family groups.
- Storage for medication that needs to be kept cool.
- Help with communication at sites and restaurants, in English or Sinhala. Our guide does not use sign language.
Where we will tell you no
Sri Lanka's historic sites were not built for accessibility, and neither the rock at Sigiriya nor much of the hill country can be made step-free. We would rather say that before you book than have you arrive at the bottom of a staircase you cannot climb. Tell us what you need and we will plan a route that works, or tell you plainly if a particular site will not.
Guide dogs and assistance animals
Assistance animals are welcome in the vehicle. Please tell us in advance, since some religious sites and national parks apply their own restrictions and we will need to check each one on your itinerary.
