1. Why there is no cookie banner
You have not been asked to accept cookies because there are none to accept. This site sets no cookies, first-party or third-party, and runs no analytics, advertising or tracking scripts. A banner asking permission for something that does not happen would be theatre.
2. The one thing that is stored
| What | A browser local storage entry named language |
|---|---|
| Value | A two-letter code such as en, de or ja |
| Why | So the site opens in the language you picked instead of resetting to English |
| Set when | You choose a language from the picker. Never before that |
| How long | Until you clear your browsing data. There is no expiry |
| Sent anywhere | No. Unlike a cookie it is never attached to a request. It stays on your device |
3. Local storage is not a cookie
The difference matters. A cookie is transmitted to a server with every request you make. Local storage is read only by code running in your own browser and goes nowhere. Nothing about your language choice reaches us or anyone else.
4. How to remove it
Clear site data for this website in your browser settings, or use private browsing, and the entry is gone. The only effect is that the site opens in English again next time. Nothing else on the site depends on it.
5. Requests to other services
Loading any page requests typefaces from Google Fonts and an icon font from the jsDelivr CDN. Those requests reveal your IP address to those services, as any web request does to any server, but they set no cookies here and we receive nothing back from them. If you follow a WhatsApp or Facebook link you leave this site and enter services that do use cookies, under their own policies.
6. Do Not Track
There is nothing for a Do Not Track signal to switch off, since no tracking takes place either way.
7. If this changes
Should we ever add analytics or any cookie, this page will be updated before it goes live and will name what is set, by whom and for how long. Related reading: our Privacy Policy.
